Grow Light
Light is necessary for all plants to grow. When creating an artificial growing environment, bear in mind that the grow light is the most important equipment in the room. Blue spectrum light is most effective for vegetative growing, whilst red spectrum light triggers hormonal changes in a plant stimulating fruit and flower production. High Pressure Sodium (HPS) is best for flowering, whilst Metal Halide and to a lesser extent Grolux are best for vegetative growing. However, you can use an HPS Dual Spectrum or Son T-plus for vegging and flowering with good results. Use a contactor with all HPS systems if working with a timer! For mother plants and seedlings or cuttings you should use a high output flourescent in a blue spectrum (Starlite or Eco-light 125w or 250w).
Canna
Canna was one of the first Dutch nutrients designed for hydroponic growing. It is a high quality brand with a well deserved world wide reputation for excellence. It remains a best selling nutrient range, with many growers rating the additives very highly too, in their own right. Use the Hydro and Aqua ranges for hydroponics, Canna Terra for soil growers. Canna Start is for cutting and seedling growth. Use Rhizotonic and Cannazym for beneficial root development and try Canna Boost Accelerator and Canna PK13-14 for increased flower density and production. Canna Flush is used to clean excess nutrient from substrates during flowering and pre-harvest.
Grow Lights
Growing under Lights. Horticultural Grow lights are the most important piece of equipment in the Growroom. High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps for Growlights come in 3 types: High Pressure Sodium (HPS) have all the Red (Autumn) light for flowering crops, but they must always be Nav-T SUPER or Son-T PLUS or equivalent. Metal Halide are used really only in the Vegetative stages - lots of Blue (Springtime) light for healthy green shoots. Metal Halides are perhaps not needed for those on a budget as HPS lamps have Blue light too. Grolux or Sunmaster Dual Spectrum horticultural lamps are a mix of about 30% blue and 75% red giving a slightly higher output than an HPS lamp. A horticultural Growlight should not be confused with Hi-Bay or Lo-Bay lights which are designed for car parks, security lighting, street lighting etc. Hi/ Lo Bay lights are designed to produce enough light for us to see by but not for plants to flower with and are made for economy elecric use. A proper Growlight is geared differently to a Lo/ Hi Bay to force a higher light output from the bulb (trying to recreate Sunlight on a small scale) not with economy but RESULTS in mind. Our Growlights all take HPS & Grolux lamps and Metal Halide also. We have an excellent selection of the best lights available.
Envirolite
Eco-lights are effective, energy-saving, reliable, low heat generating horticultural grow lamps, giving excellent results and lower operating costs for all indoor growers and we are now selling 250w Eco-Lights at the same price as the previous 200w Eco-Lights! We also have a new Purple Eco-Light which can be used for Vegging and Flowering. Eco-lights give 100% PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) high output light and are used successfully for all propagation, vegetative and flowering stages. Position within 3-4cm from the top of the plants. Unlike HID lamps, these new generation Envirolite grow lamps will not burn your plants. There are now 3 models of Genuine Eco-lights , 125w, 200w & 250w and they come as follows: * 6400K Propagation & vegetative growing (blue) * 2700K Flowering stage growing (red) * 25000K 8U Vegetative & Flowering (Purple) . A CFL Lamp Hanger and lead fitted with plug are needed to use an Eco-Light. Some growers use a Euro reflector and 13amp plug with the 125w CFL. Note: 200w & 250w are too large for Euro reflector.
Hydroponics Systems
NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) NFT is uniquely simple. It involves a shallow film of nutrient solution (nutrient & water) constantly recirculating past the roots of your plants. Nutrient solution is pumped from a tank to the channel, over the plant roots and back into the tank. It is the recirculating film that differentiates NFT from other hydroponics systems. Multiflow systems will help you to achieve great results with minimum fuss! Powered by a controller, the Multiflow floods and drains each of the growing pots, ensuring that your plants receive fresh nutrient and plenty of oxygen - helping to enhance growth rates! Wilma and Dutch Pot Dripper systems allow the grower the luxury of some growth medium (ie. clay pebbles, coco or soil) which creates a safety margin if the reservoir has run dry (much the same as Flood & Drain in that respect). A system is controlled by means of a segmental timer.
Grow Rooms
Grow rooms are complete environments for plants incorporating a grow light, an inline extractor fan (and depending on temperature and humidity an input fan). Growing methods are either a hydroponic system or using potted soil. Using hydroponics or soil will require varying amounts of plant nutrient and additives to boost plant growth and flower production. Plant lighting and fresh air are controlled with 24 hour timers. We stock a large range of plant care products for the indoor growroom and a selection of Homebox instant growrooms.
Hydroponic Lights
Hydroponic lights is a misleading term. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, in which all the nutrients are supplied via the water. 'Pure' hydroponic systems cultivate plants without using substrate (Nutrient Film Technique, Aeroponics) and some hydro systems use a substrate (rockwool, perlite, coco fibre, clay pebbles and peat.)
The type of nutrient that must be used usually depends on the type of system being used. Why use hydroponics rather than soil? Increased aeration to roots will achieve a bigger yield varying between 2 to 10 times more. Direct application of water and nutrient to roots produces immediate responses and uses less plant energy leaving more for fruit and flower production. As hydro systems are mainly sterile. pest and disease problems are greatly reduced. Using hydroponics lights is essential in an indoor grow.
Indoor Growing
Indoor Growing requires using a growlight to recreate a smaller sun indoors because all plants need light to grow. Our Maxibright compact 400w,600w and 1000w ballasts can be used with HPS, Dual Spectrum Grolux or Sunmaster or Metal Halide lamps. We have CoolShade and Diamond reflectors from Ecotechnics, and Maxibright Plus and Photon reflectors from Maxigrow with excellent value Euro reflectors for those on a budget. For successful indoor growing, extraction is also necessary to provide fresh air for your plants. This is best done with an HVK inline extractor fan and a carbon filter, ducting and a timer.
Biobizz
Biobizz produce an organic certified range of sterilised soils pre fed with organic nutrients to ensure a healthy crop every time. Biobizz Bio-Grow & Bio-Bloom are the basic feeds for growth and bloom and may be used with Alga-Mic and Fish-Mix in the growth phase. BioHeaven is a new booster from Biobizz along with their bestseller Top-Max. Belfast Indoor Gardening sell the complete range of organic nutrients from Biobizz.
Grow Lamps
Grow lamps are essential when growing plants indoors as they recreate sunlight on a minute scale. Blue spectrum (springtime) light is most effective for vegetative growing, whilst red spectrum (summer and autumn) light triggers hormonal changes in a plant stimulating fruit and flower production. High Pressure Sodium (HPS) is best for flowering, whilst Metal Halide and to a lesser extent Grolux are best for vegetative growing. However, you can use an HPS Nav T-super or Son T-plus for vegging and flowering with good results. Use a contactor with all HPS systems if working with a timer! HPS grow lamps should be replaced every 12-14 months and Grolux lamps should be replaced every 6 months as they lose plant light intensity or lumens.
